Bird Alliance of Oregon Birding Day: Klickitat River Butterflies & Birds *FULL*

This is a self-driving day trip, and the meeting location is approximately one hour and twenty minutes from Portland. Meet in Lyle, Washington at 7:30 a.m. Stefan will reach out with further details before the trip. Bring lunch and dress for the weather.

We will search for mostly butterflies of the Klickitat River, but also wildflowers, birds, and dragonflies. We are hoping for the rare Goldhunter’s Hairstreak, Great Arctic, Silver-spotted Skipper and California Hairstreak. Our dragonfly target will be the Grappletail. Wahkiacus is a great birding location, and we should have warblers and flycatchers on a 1-mile hike. At Wahkiacus, we will search for Yellow-breasted Chat, Nashville Warbler, and Red-eyed Vireo

$85 – $115

Rest stops: We will have rest stops between walks – our second area will be about 20 minutes by car from the first
Sun exposure: Partial to full
Amenities (bathrooms and parking): Portapotties will be available at the first stop, gas stations will be available along the drive
Public transit: None

Distance: One longer walk of about 1mi and 2 hours. Several smaller walks
Elevation changes: The longer walk is flat. Surfaces can be uneven
