Field Trip: Advanced Waterfowl ID at Ankeny and Baskett Slough with Brodie Cass Talbott
This is a self-driving trip. Bring lunch and come dressed for the weather.
Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge and the nearby Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge were created for wintering waterfowl and are excellent places to spend a day looking for ducks, geese, and swans. In this companion class to our Advanced Waterfowl ID class, we’ll work on the finer points of waterfowl identification, studying ducks in flight, cryptic female plumages, and some of the tricky species pairs such as Tundra and Trumpeter Swan.
The trip leader will send out further details the week before the trip, but participants should expect to meet at Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge.
Join Brodie for the accompanying class on December 13. Registration in the class is recommended but not required to join this trip:
Rest Stops: Multiple along the way, including lunch
Sun Exposure: Partial, but sun is unlikely on this trip
Amenities (bathrooms and parking): Rustic bathrooms will be available every few hours
Public transit: None
Accessibility
