Field Class: Birding by Ear, Spring and Summer Migrants with Laura Whittemore *FULL*

In this two-session field class with longtime ear birder Laura Whittemore you’ll get to know the songs and calls of spring and summer migrant songbirds such as Black-headed Grosbeak, Western Tanager, House Wren, Common Yellowthroat, and Swainson’s Thrush. Because they are visitors, we don’t have as much time in the year to listen for and learn them, so a class geared specifically to their voices will give your learning a real boost.

  • Class fee: $75 members / $95 non-members *for both classes

Laura Whittemore

Laura Whittemore has been watching and enjoying birds since sometime last century and loves to mentor newer birders as they improve their skills and encounter more birds. Through Bird Alliance of Oregon she’s taught birding classes since 2000, helping launch the careers of hundreds of eager new birders. She’s especially keen on birding by ear and will help you tell the difference between a Black-capped and a Chestnut-backed Chickadee, for a start. Laura’s been lucky enough to bird in the Southern Hemisphere three times but has yet to experience a full-on North American spring warbler migration. In the meantime, she’ll keep birding locally in between house projects and dog walks.
