Birding Day: Willamette Birding – Milwaukie to West Linn

Visit some lesser-known birding spots along the Willamette River, beginning at Milwaukie Bay Park where we walk along the waterfront searching for Yellow-rumped Warblers and Hermit Thrush feeding in the wax myrtles and Gadwall, Bufflehead, Short-billed and California Gulls feed in the river. We’ll explore the recently restored Boardman Wetland, complete with a raised metal boardwalk allowing close up views of Green-winged Teal and an every changing mix of ducks.

We’ll venture to Clackamette Park where a variety of wintering gulls can be found, then we will end our trip at Clackamette Cove along the Clackamas River Trail where cormorants, mergansers, goldeneye and various ducks seek food and shelter and the adjacent habitat is home to various sparrow, and the occasional wintering meadowlark.  We’ll discuss some of the on-going conservation issues in these areas as well.

Birders of all experience levels are welcome. Bring lunch and dress for the weather. You will drive yourself for the day. Dan will reach out with further details before the trip.
