The Bird Days of Summer: Birds and Bevvies: Burns/Hines Nature Trail (Harney County)

We’ll park at the Egan Rd. Trailhead and walk along this old railroad bed turned Nature Trail. The trail travels past the golf course and Burns sewage ponds. The sewage ponds are great for waterfowl and the surrounding meadows, shrubs, and trees are good for a diversity of raptors and passerines.

We’ll head to drinks, meals, and socializing after.

Distance: 2 miles
Elevation Change: Flat, level trail
Trail tread and width: Trail is graveled with large gravel, uneven in some places; >36” wide
Pacing: We will move at a slow pace, stopping frequently to look at birds
Amenities: There are no bathrooms or water available
Rest Stops: There are several benches along the trail

Join Bird Alliance of Oregon’s Education and Conservation Teams for The Bird Days of Summer, a series of free, super beginner-friendly programs for anyone curious about birds in nature. We’re combining community-building, exploration, and fun to create safe spaces for people to get to know each other as well as the birds. Binoculars can be provided upon request, and we’ll begin each program with a short “how-to” to help you get started.
