The Bird Days of Summer: Art, Native Land, and Birding w/ Confluence *1 spot left*

Together we’ll spend the morning birding with Confluence to connect us to the history, living cultures, and ecology of the Sandy River Delta. The Sandy River Delta is one of six sites of significance that Confluence and partners work from to connect people to the history, living cultures, and ecology of the Columbia River system through Indigenous voices. The Bird Blind, a landscape installation, designed by Maya Lin is comprised of vertical wooden slats inscribed with the name and current status of 134 species Lewis and Clark noted on their westward journey.

Join Clifton Bruno, from the Wasco Tribe, Christine Bruno, of Comanche, Basque and Irish heritage, and birders from Bird Alliance of Oregon to learn about Indigenous Traditional Ecological and Cultural Knowledge and discuss how the Bird Blind fosters discussion on topics like Land Back and reciprocity.

Trail tread: Trails are gravel or packed dirt with little to no elevation change.
Pace: will be slow (we are birders!)
Distance is 2-3 miles.
Sun exposure: The first half of the morning will be in full sun, the second half will have dappled shade.
Rest stops: None
Restrooms: Two ADA-compliant restrooms in parking lot.

*Note that this site is also an off-leash dog park so some encounters with 4-leggeds are expected.  A NW Forest Pass or $5 day pass is required (day pass can be purchased with a credit card in the parking lot).

Bike and bird the slough!

Join Bird Alliance of Oregon’s Education and Conservation Team for The Bird Days of Summer, a series of super beginner-friendly programs for anyone curious about birds in nature. We’re combining community-building, exploration, and fun to create safe spaces for people to get to know each other as well as the birds. Binoculars will be provided, and we’ll begin each program with a short “how-to” to help you get started.
