The Bird Days of Summer: Conservation Adventure at Forest Park *WAITLIST* *FULL*
Join Urban Conservation and Education staff on an advocacy-focused exploration of Forest Park. This unique outing focuses on a very specific area that is at risk of development (check out our blog post for more details!). Learn about this special section of the park, the birds that rely on it, and what you can do to help advocate for its protection. We’ll keep our eyes out for birds like Western tanagers, Black-headed grosbeaks, nuthatches, and more, as we venture through mature conifer forest, oak woodlands, and sunny wildflower slopes. The hike includes breathtaking views of Mt St. Helens and Mt Rainier (a rare view from Portland!).
The route will be quite strenuous, involving a steep climb, some bushwacking, and sun exposure. We will make frequent stops, but come prepared for a more intense adventure. We look forward to seeing you there!
* Note: This outing is quite different from our other Bird Days of Summer trips. It focuses on a very specific advocacy issue, and will equip you with the knowledge and tools to become a better advocate. It is an opportunity to connect to other people who are also passionate about preserving public lands and the wildlife that call them home. It is also important to reiterate that the hike is quite difficult compared to our typical outing. Steep elevation, slippery gravel, and bushwacking make this a rugged adventure geared towards those who don’t mind sweating a little!
