Birding Day: Beginning Winter Raptor Identification at Scappoose
Sauvie Island is well known to birders seeking out cranes, swans, and raptors. Much less well-known is the nearby Crown Zellerbach Trail, which features much of the same habitat, and birds. We’ll spend the first two hours walking a mile-long section of this trail looking for hawks, eagles, harriers, and falcons, and working on their identification, before walking to the adjacent fields to search for Short-eared Owls at sundown.
*Note that it may be fully dark by the time we get back to the parking lot, and flashlights are recommended.
