Birding Basics: For Beginners Who Are Bird-Curious

*This class is for beginning birders.

Birding can be a challenging hobby to start, and finding a community to grow your skills with isn’t always easy. Join Birding Basics, a three-part series (3 in person class lectures and 3 in person field classes) that covers essential topics such as bird identification, the importance of habitat and seasonality, birding vocabulary, recommended gear, and online resources.

We’ll meet on the last Monday of each month for an in-person lecture, where we’ll dive into these topics together. Then, the following Saturday, we’ll head into the field to put those new skills into practice. This class will be offered on a sliding scale (please read about each rate on the scale and select accordingly).

This is a three-part series, with 3 in person classes and 3 companion field classes. The fee covers all six sessions.

-January 27, in person at Heron Hall at 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
-February 1, at Smith and Bybee Wetlands, 8:30-10:30 a.m.

-February 24, in person at Heron Hall at 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
-March 1, at Vanport Wetlands, 8:30-10:30 a.m.

-March 31, in person at Heron Hall at 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
-April 5 at Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Please be mindful that space is limited and sliding scale programs fill up quickly. We ask that if you need to cancel, you give us at least one week notice so we can try to fill your spot. 1 registration allowed per person.
