Bird Journals: Simplifying Details *FULL*

Practice noticing, and discover how to see shapes, postures, proportions, and angles more easily, and then draw those birds in your journal more effectively. Add a little watercolor to your page, and some writing, and you have a wonderful journal page.

No art experience is needed! Relaxation and awareness help you learn new ways of seeing, and then of drawing and using watercolor simply. For joy, not mastery! Keeping a bird journal is fun, easy, portable, and a creative relaxing way to record your experiences with birds, at home, or anywhere in the field in a more creative than “perfection” style. Each class has a different focus, and each class reviews some basics.

In this class, we will focus on details of journaling when desired. Eyes, bills, wings, tails, legs, and feet can be represented in simple ways with pen and paints. Also, textures, spots, and stripes can be done easily with a brush. We’ll cover the basics for keeping a bird journal, using drawing, simple watercolor, and perhaps notes, each class has a specific focus, and also covers the basic skills: learning to see, to draw without fear, being present, add some color and some notes.

We work mostly inside, with the resident birds, specimens and live, as well as with photo referencess to learn the skills.

Jude is a teacher, artist, and naturalist who loves nature journaling, and has invited and inspired many people to begin and continue this joyful creative process.
