Intro to Backpacking (M-W overnight at Marmot, W-F backcountry) *FULL*
This empowering trip will begin as participants travel to Bird Alliance of Oregon’s very own Marmot Cabin located near Mt. Hood Oregon. The first two days will be spent at Marmot Cabin learning and practicing the basics of backpacking and outdoor survival skills in preparation to hit the trails. In preparation for our expedition into the Gifford Pinchot Wilderness, we will learn how to plan a trip, pack our backpacks and plan meals. We will also learn and practice back-country skills such as Leave No Trace, basic first aid, survival skills, orienteering and backcountry cooking.
Once comfortable with our new skills, we will head out into the Gifford Pinchot wilderness on a 2 night backpacking trip! Build strength, confidence and outdoor skills while taking in the views of mountain lakes and the Cascade range. After spending 3 days in the backcountry we will return to Bird Alliance of Oregon and celebrate our challenges, friendships and achievements of the week.
All transportation and food is provided. Participants provide their own camping gear.
