Bird Journals: Getting that Shape, Angle, and Pose! with Jude Siegel

Join Jude to learn how to see differently and how to drop unrealistic artistic expectations of yourself. Start or continue your bird journal. No art or birding experience is needed! For joy, not mastery! Keeping a bird journal is fun, easy, portable, and a creative, relaxing way to record your experiences with birds.

In this class, you will learn to observe more skillfully and translate it into your journal. We’ll focus on simplifying and drawing exactly what is needed to represent the birds you see. Then you’ll add some watercolor to liven up your page. We’ll focus on ways to simplify markings, capture the pose, and note the most important details. Jude will share penwork and watercolor hints. You’ll learn easy ways to draw the birds you see and love, in your journal. Our focus will be exercises in seeing, drawing, adding notes and using watercolor simply to create journal pages of personal interpretation. NO art experience needed! For beginners and beyond.

We will explore excellent tools for recording your bird experiences, both at home and in the field. Each class focuses on a specific aspect of journaling and reviews the basics. Relaxation is encouraged, and your unique style will be celebrated. Please take as many classes as you wish in the series. Using simple exercises that build attention, relaxation and observation, learn to see what is really there, and then draw the birds.
We will also use some watercolor, again, with simple direction. Get over the fear, and discover that you can do birds!
