Language of the Birds

A tense chirp from deep in the forest calls to your ears. The repeated sound has you sitting upright in anticipation of what it might reveal. Within moments, the chirp is replaced with a melodic song that no human could ever master. As you look closely you see, sitting on a dead down log, the silhouette of one of Oregon’s smallest and most powerful song-singers…Pacific Wren!

Come learn the language of the birds as we focus on the five voices that many birds use to communicate. We’ll learn what the reasons are for specific bird calls and songs. You’ll be able to recognize alarms calls, songs, and more as we travel throughout Portland and beyond to decipher the language of the birds!
