About Michelle:
Michelle Nijhuis is the author of Beloved Beasts: Fighting for Life in an Age of Extinction, a history of the modern conservation movement. A longtime climate and environmental journalist who has written for National Geographic, the Atlantic, and the New York Times Magazine, she leads the Conservation Beyond Boundaries project at High Country News and writes the Substack newsletter Conservation Works. After 15 years off the electrical grid in rural Colorado, she and her family now live in White Salmon, Washington, in the Columbia River Gorge.
