Birding Day: Celebrate the New Year in Clackamas County
Start your 2025 birding checklist off right! Join expert birder, Dan van den Broek on a grand tour of Clackamas County, visiting the best sites to bird in January. We’ll try to cover all the best lowland hotspots: Milwaukie Bay, Boardman Wetlands, Clackamette Park, Clackamette Lagoon, Willamette Wetlands, Brown’s Ferry, Molalla Rivers State Park, Anderson Rd. Swale, Blount Rd. Swale, Ivor Davies and Clark Park. We’ll look for ducks, raptors, overwintering songbirds and more! We may even take a short detour to chase down the latest rarity!
We will search fields for Western Meadowlark and sparrow flocks and small wetland areas for numerous ducks, herons, and egrets. Northern Harrier and Peregrine Falcon are always a possibility. Patches of oak woodland are home to Acorn Woodpecker and the Pacific (Slender-billed) White-breasted Nuthatch.
Bring lunch and dress for the weather. You will drive yourself for the day. Dan will reach out with further details before the trip.
