Pacific Northwest Trip: Oregon’s Wild Southern Coast

Escape the crowds (and maybe even the rain!) with a trip to Oregon’s rugged South Coast. The least developed part of the Oregon Coast, with one of the highest densities of park land in the nation, Coos and Curry county boast incredible landscapes and bountiful wildlife.

On this four-day van trip we’ll visit some of the top birding sites in the state, searching for Marbled Murrelet at Cape Arago, watching for waders and White-tailed Kite at Bandon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge, and enjoying Black Oystercatcher and Black Turnstone at Chetco Point. With luck we may catch up with a Snowy Egret along the Rogue River, or an Elegant Tern near the California border. And of course, we’ll stop in at Simpson Reef to enjoy the spectacle of hundreds of seals and sea lions.

After meeting up at the Clackamas Town Center parking lot, we’ll spend the first night of the trip in Coos Bay, before venturing all the way to the California border to staying Brookings our second night, and then stay in Bandon on the third night, slowly making our way back to Portland by 6 p.m.
