April 5 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Principles of Photography (A 5-session Immersive Course)
Photography is one of the many ways in which we can further immerse ourselves in nature. It allows us to encapsulate the beauty of the natural world and carry memories with us. Birds are lovely, diverse subjects with personalities. In this course, students will learn the importance of composition, color, and light in order to create artistic, authentic images. Students will learn to work with their environment and subject in an ethical yet meaningful way. The goal is not only to craft images using acquired skills, but to tell a story and capture the subject’s true spirit.
The course consists of four modules: composition, color, light and shadow, and storytelling. After lectures, students will go into the sanctuary at Bird Alliance of Oregon to practice their skills. After completing 4 modules, we will meet over zoom for a final critique. Prior to the critique, students will upload 4 of their favorite images to a shared google folder.
Course Requirements: A functioning DSLR or Mirrorless Camera (No Cellphones, Tablets, etc) and lens. Lenses with a focal length of 300mm and above are preferred, but not required. Lastly and most importantly, enthusiasm and a love of birds <3.
This is a photography series, with 4 in person classes/practice sessions and one online zoom session. The fee covers all five sessions.
