Bird Alliance of Oregon Birding Day: Beginning Winter Raptor Identification at Sauvie Island *FULL*
Sauvie Island, with its abundant open spaces and mix of habitats, is host to a large population of wintering raptors. In this beginner’s-focused trip, we’ll search for and practice identifying hawks, harriers, eagles, and falcons at some of the best hotspots on the island.
Rest stops: We will be visiting 3-4 locations, with breaks in between. No rest stops on our walk.
Sun exposure: Full (hopefully!)
Amenities (bathrooms and parking): Ample parking at all of our locations; participants need an ODFW Parking Pass. Each stop will have a portapotty.
Accessibility
Walking distance: Up to 1.5 miles total.
Elevation changes: None, except for one very short hill up to the dike at Racoon Point
Trail: Most of our walking will be along a dirt road, with patches of mud and some coarse rocks
