Watercolor Painting with Ronna: The Bohemian Waxwing

*This is an online art class held on Zoom.

Enjoy an evening painting the colorful Bohemian Waxwing, a nomadic avian wanderer. Did you know the red waxy spots on their secondary feathers come from eating red berries? Learn how to paint these spots and why watercolor is a perfect medium to capture the beautiful gradation of color and beautiful markings of the Bohemian Waxwing. View supply list.

Ronna will demonstrate various watercolor techniques such as wet on wet, soft and hard edge, subtle value shifts, and creating luminous grays and darks. This is a great introduction to Ronna’s signature style of loosely painted watercolor.

The birds will be painted from photographs supplied by Ronna as she explains the step-by-step process she has mastered in painting birds. Students can paint along with Ronna during this live class or work at their own pace with access to the recording of the zoom lesson after the session.

I see colors and compositions for paintings in all the trees, the hills, distant mountains, the birds…. thinking in watercolor.  The natural world is my sanctuary and my inspiration!”

For the last decade, Ronna has been dedicated to her creative and teaching practices. Her classes offer a supportive space for both beginners and intermediate students to learn basic watercolor techniques, color theory, and developing an individual style. Her professional guidance has compelled many to develop a passion for watercolor painting.
