Big Sit for World Migratory Bird Day
Join us in Portland, on the coast in Nehalem, or Malheur National Refuge to enjoy World Migratory Bird Day from an accessible perch to celebrate the sights and sounds of spring migration. We will be birding by seat to count familiar birds and those just passing through. Drop in anytime during the event times and stay for as long as you can.
Bring your own camp chair or seat.

Migratory Bird Day Celebration and Big Sit in Portland
Celebrate World Migratory Bird day at this urban birding gem. Together we will bird by seat and enjoy coffee provided by Keia & Martyn’s Coffee and colorful macaroons from Farina Bakery. We may spot Osprey flying ahead and hear the songs of Black-headed Grosbeaks and our other migrating birds!

When? Saturday, May 11 from 8:30 – 11 a.m. (drop by anytime!)
Who? Everyone! This is a migratory bird celebration for beginner and expert birders alike. No experience necessary and birding opportunities for all. Drop by anytime between 8:30-11 a.m. and perch with us as long as you’d like. Registration is not required. There is no seating available. Please bring your own camp chair and mug for coffee.
New to birding? Birder Naturalists will be available to share all their birdyness. Need binoculars? We’ll have a few to borrow.

Migratory Bird Day Celebration and Big Sit at Malheur
Come celebrate spring migration at Malheur at our third annual Malheur Big Sit. Participants are encouraged to arrive any time between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., and to stay for as long as they are comfortable/interested. At 10 a.m. we’ll break out doughnuts, warm beverages, and some gluten-free and non-dairy treats, as well. There will be space to spread out at Malheur HQ, and for shifting views and positions while you’re birding with us. Lastly, we will have activities for youth available for the duration of the event.

Who? Everyone! This is an accessible, inclusive outing and BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, and beginning birders and bird-enthusiasts are welcome. Bring chairs, blankets, or whatever your seating preferences are.

Big Sit on the Oregon Coast
Come celebrate spring migration on the North Coast and learn about the important efforts that local organizations are making to protect birds and the habitats they depend on. This event is in partnership with Lower Nehalem Community Trust and several other local organizations. RSVPs are welcomed but not required. For more details, check out www.nehalemtrust.
