Writing Haiku in Nature

Haiku is a traditional, short form of Japanese poetry through which the poet conveys their experience of nature via a simple written formula. Using this simple formula, anyone can write haiku!

This class introduces participants to classical haiku poetry, and guides them to write their own haiku poems while spending time in nature. Participants will have the opportunity to share what they’ve written with the group if they choose to do so. Haiku themes often focus on seasonal changes. Come be inspired by the changes of Spring to write your own haiku! The Bird Alliance of Oregon Nature Sanctuary will surround participants with native plants that benefit our native wildlife, birds, and pollinators. Participants may wish to incorporate related themes into their haiku.

Participants should bring their own writing supplies (notebook, journal, pen, etc).
