Located in a vibrant central Portland location on the Portland State University campus, Viking Pavilion offers a vast, airy and light-filled venue, allowing festival goers to move about comfortably in all spaces.
The Wild Arts Festival showcases more than 60 artists, including jewelry designers, painters, printmakers, and sculptors, plus glass, wood, fiber art, and ceramic artists. The beautifully diverse artistic media are aligned in their inspiration, drawing from:
- Nature or wildlife as a subject,
- Natural materials as a medium, or
- Art promoting environmental sustainability
Meet your favorite artists & authors
Art & books inspire us all, and one of the favorite features of the Wild Arts Festival is the opportunity to meet the artists and authors and talk with them about their backgrounds and craft.
Featured artists include:
- Gunter Reimnitz, a long-time festival favorite, who for over 30 years has welded bird sculptures from rigid material steel to make gestural pieces.
- Gavin Tougher, who returns for his second festival, bringing back his intricate woodwork utilizing sustainably sourced lumber, reclaimed wood, and other organic material.
- Ann Cavanaugh, returning glass artist who creates breath-taking pieces in one of art’s most difficult mediums to work with.
Authors have dedicated signing times on both Saturday and Sunday from 12 – 4 p.m. where attendees can get their purchased books autographed.
Books focus on nature, birds, hiking, history, books for kids, and topics that illuminate living in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Featured authors include:
- Marcy Cottrell Houle – Forest Park: Exploring Portland’s Natural Sanctuary
This Portland author’s latest book guides readers on 21 Hikes through the park.
- Stephanie Shaw – All by Myself
This popular, award-winning author of children’s books who takes her readers on journeys of discovery about nature, independence, and kindness.
- Jack Costa – Wine Hiking Oregon: Explore the Landscapes of Oregon Wines
This hiking book takes the reader on 30 hikes, each leading near a winery or tasting room. Jack details the hikes, biography of grapes, and tasting notes.
Silent Auction
Throughout the pavilion’s concourse, attendees will find an incredible selection of art, experiences, and outdoor gear donated to support Bird Alliance of Oregon’s mission. A few of the tempting items: high-end BX-5 Santiam HD 50mm binoculars, an Arch Cape beach house stay, spa packages, a case of Oregon Pinot Noir, a day on the golf course.
This year, attendees will have the benefit of in-person viewing of the items with the convenience of online bidding. They can register and make first bids at the event, then track the bidding on a computer or phone at home and increase bids if needed. Those not able to attend the Wild Arts Festival in person can still peruse the online catalog and register and bid from home.
