Birding Day: Birding the North Coast – Seaside Cove to South Jetty of the Columbia River

Visit the best birding locations along the North Oregon Coast!

We’ll begin at the Cannon Beach Settling Ponds, where we will scope for ducks and search the nearby trees for warblers, kinglets and sparrows. We’ll stop at Seaside Cove where we will scan the ocean looking for a variety of loons, grebes, sea ducks, gulls and more, while Black Turnstones and Surfbirds feed on the nearby rocky shoreline.

We’ll visit the Necanicum Estuary where, depending on the tide, we may find gulls and shorebirds. We’ll also look for passerines in the willows and pines; Palm Warbler and Clay-colored Sparrow have shown up in the past. Next we’ll head up to Fort Stevens State Park where we’ll scan for various ducks and shorebirds at a couple of viewpoints, and we’ll checkout Coffenbury Lake where we’ll search for Wrentit in the vegetation. We’ll end our day on Wireless Road where an assortment of unusual birds have shown up in the past and there’s a chance to find a Tropical Kingbird!

We will meet at the Sunset Transit Center top floor at 6:30 am or at Cannon Beach Settling Ponds at 8:15 am.
