The Bird Days of Summer: Beginning Birdnoticing *FULL*

Birding is so much more than birdwatching, it’s also birdlistening and birdobserving. On these short, Beginning Birdnoticing field trips to Whitaker Ponds, we’ll pay attention to bird language, adaptations, behavior, and more.

These unique, meditative, and grounding walks, inspired by author of How To Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy, Jenny Odell, will give us permission to stay quiet, taking the time to pay attention to the birds around us, really examining their behavior, their plumage, and what makes them so special. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know what kind of bird you’re seeing. The simple practice of paying attention to birds is a great place to start if you’re bird-curious but don’t know where to begin.

The pace of this field trip is slow & relaxed and will focus on taking our time to deeply notice birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat.

The best access to the park is from the entrance at 7040 NE 47 Avenue, a ¼ mile north of Columbia Blvd. TriMet bus #75 makes a stop at the corner of NE 47th Avenue and Columbia Blvd and visitors can walk north from there to the park entrance. Bike racks are located inside the entrance near the west pond.

Masks are optional on this outdoor program.
